Professional credentials:Allan McDougall joined Pigott Stinson in 2008 as Special Counsel, specialising in banking and finance. Allan graduated in commerce and law from the University of NSW in 1977 and was admitted as a solicitor in NSW in 1978 and in Queensland in 1982. Allan completed a Master of Business Administration at the Australian Graduate School of Management in 1986 and obtained a Diploma in Financial Management from the Securities Institute of Australia in 1989. In 1995 he won the Australian Banking Law Association's annual research prize, with his paper on trustee investment powers. Allan gained commercial, company secretarial and regulatory experience in the mining and airline industries before moving into legal practice in Queensland, with a focus on commercial real estate. Following his MBA Allan moved into the banking industry, where for over ten years he was head of the in-house legal department at the Australian branch of a major European bank. During this time Allan advised on various kinds of transactions in the areas of corporate banking, secured lending and asset-based finance, trade and project finance, foreign exchange and various other treasury products and funding programs. Since moving into legal practice several years ago Allan has continued his finance speciality but has also advised in various commercial matters including shareholder and joint-venture agreements, product management and distribution arrangements, and software licensing and service contracts.
