Professional credentials:John Ralston graduated in Arts/Law from Sydney University and was admitted as a solicitor in 1975. He joined Pigott Stinson in 1977. John is the leader of the firm's Clubs Industry practice group. John has practised widely during his career but for the last 25 years has concentrated on commercial litigation, company law, deceased estates, Family Provision Act claims and discrimination law. He acted for the complainant in the case of Hill v Water Resources Commission, one of the leading cases on discrimination and was the solicitor for the defendant in the Mercantile Mutual Life Insurance Co v V L Gosper, a reported case dealing with competing equities arising from a forged mortgage. He was also the solicitor for the defendant in Reynolds v Katoomba RSL All Services Club, a recent Court of Appeal case which explored the duty of care owed to gamblers for their losses. For over twenty years, John has acted extensively for registered clubs throughout New South Wales. This is a major part of his practice. He also lectures to the club industry on the topics of company and club law and discrimination and has recently lectured the legal profession on club and gaming legislation in New South Wales.
